New Delhi and its surrounding areas experienced widespread rainfall on Wednesday, resulting in decreased temperatures and cloudy skies, as well as instances of waterlogging in various locations. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain on Thursday. The maximum temperature dropped by approximately four degrees, with Safdarjung, the city's base station, recording a maximum of 32.4 degrees Celsius - two degrees below normal compared to the previous day’s 36.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature stood at 25.2 degrees Celsius, consistent with seasonal norms but lower than the previous day’s 26.9 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels ranged between 70% and 100%. The rain, predominantly occurring between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm, brought varying amounts of precipitation to different areas: Safdarjung received 11.3 mm, Palam 7.4 mm, Lodhi Road 7.6 mm, Ridge area 16.8 mm, and Ayanagar 53 mm. In Narela, 34.5 mm of rainfall was recorded, while Delhi University North Campus saw 20 mm and Mayur Vihar 3 mm during the same time frame. Weather experts anticipate rain in the next two days but with reduced intensity and possibly occurring intermittently. Beyond September 8, a dry spell is expected for at least five days, except for isolated rainfall instances. On Thursday, temperatures are forecasted to reach around 33 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 25 degrees Celsius for the minimum. The rain led to waterlogging in numerous locations, including parts of Okhla and Ring Road.Ad and Dhaula Kuan experienced stagnant water due to rainfall. The Public Works Department (PWD) officials reported brief traffic disruptions in the Mundka area, which were quickly resolved. A PWD official from the central flood control room stated that despite moderate rainfall, only 52 complaints of waterlogging were received, most of which were promptly addressed by response teams. Underpasses such as Minto Bridge and Pragati Maidan remained largely unaffected. Traffic delays were observed in various parts of the city, including Ring Road towards Dhaula Kuan, Tilak Nagar, Jesus and Mary Road in Chanakyapuri, Kalindi Kunj flyover, GT Karnal Road near GTK Depot, Adhchini Red Light, Shivalik Red Light in Malviya Nagar, and Mathura Road towards Badarpur where a bus breakdown at Madanpur Khadar caused additional congestion.
